MATTARE: At war with ourselves
Commissioner Bruce Mattare’s most recent exploitation of “County” residents will appear on our ballots this fall. Commissioner Leslie Duncan is 100% correct that the advisory ballot language supporting Citylink will most certainly result in a “no” answer from our voting population, despite the wonderful service being provided.
I understand that approximately 75% of Kootenai County residents live within city limits. Yet, Mattare consistently acts as if the remaining 25% unincorporated residents are always sitting at the short end of the stick. I am not familiar with every populace-paid budget line item but am confident that our city-citizens overwhelmingly fund services that enhance our county, directly or indirectly. Placing some of our most vulnerable residents at risk and selling bus service as something that only benefits four cities is misleading and narrow-minded.
It’s amazing that this narrative is tolerated, and worse, parroted. When will Mattare realize that city residents are county residents and when will he be replaced with someone willing to serve all county taxpayers? Unfortunately, not this November.
