PREP GOLF: Another record for Viking girls

6A

POST FALLS — Led by junior medalists Ella Wilson and Hunter Paquin, Coeur d'Alene's girls and boys golf teams each won team championships at the 6A District 1 golf tournament Monday at The Links Golf Club.

Coeur d'Alene's girls shot a school-record 289 to win their fourth straight district title, and sixth in seven years. Wilson was medalist for a third straight year with a 3-under-par 70, and defeated sophomore teammate Emily Stillert on the second hole of a playoff.

"Today was a great day for Viking golf. The golf course and conditions were fantastic, and the girls were just awesome today," Coeur d'Alene girls coach Jeff Lake said.

Paquin shot a 4-under 69, edging Karl Berend (70) of Post Falls and Trey Lambert (71) of Lake City. Berend and Lambert also qualified for state.

“Super proud of the boys and their play today," said first-year Coeur d'Alene boys coach Cole Jaworski, a former Viking player. "They came into the day focused and got the job done. We’re excited to go compete next week.”

Lake City's girls finished second (only the district champs advance to state), but "we had our best tournament of the year," coach Corey Owen said. "We shot 367, and all five girls shot under 100."

T-Wolf Danika Thompson finished sixth overall with an 85.

"All five are juniors; a good way to end the season," Owen said.

State is Oct. 12-13 at Avondale Golf Club in Hayden.
