FAST FIVE: Andrea Fulks; advocate, connector, and champion for the local business community
Meet Andrea Fulks, president and CEO of the Hayden Chamber of Commerce. She plays major roles in the organization, representing the Chamber at events and with local government, setting strategic goals and ensuring alignment with the Chamber's mission.
1. Can you please explain your role as the President and CEO of the Hayden Chamber of Commerce?
As President and CEO, I have the privilege of serving as an advocate, connector, and champion for our local business community.
My role goes far beyond planning events. I work to promote our members, create opportunities for networking and education, support economic growth, and build strong partnerships that make Hayden and the surrounding area a great place to live, work, and do business.
Every day is different, but I always focus on helping our businesses and our community thrive.
2. What inspired you to get into this line of work?
I've always loved bringing people together and finding ways to help others succeed. The Chamber lets me combine my passion for community, business, and relationship-building into one career.
Seeing local businesses grow, celebrating their successes through ribbon cuttings and grand openings, and watching new connections turn into lasting partnerships is incredibly rewarding.
I truly believe that when businesses succeed, our entire community benefits. And I get to use my passion for events in fun ways almost every month!
3. What has been the most challenging and most rewarding aspect of your service to the Hayden community?
The most challenging part has been helping businesses navigate difficult times, whether it's economic uncertainty, workforce challenges, or unexpected events like natural disasters. During those moments, the Chamber becomes more than an organization; we become a resource, a voice, and a support system.
The most rewarding part is seeing the impact our work has on people. Whether it's helping a new business get established, watching long-time members celebrate milestones, mentoring emerging leaders, or seeing our community come together through Chamber events, those moments remind me why I love what I do. Knowing that we've helped strengthen our local economy and build meaningful relationships is incredibly fulfilling.
4. What kind of hobbies or pastimes do you enjoy?
When I'm not at the Chamber, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Mike, and our growing family, especially our grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I also enjoy attending community events, supporting local businesses, decorating for themed Chamber events, and finding creative ways to make networking fun.
If there's an opportunity to bring smiles, laughter, and a little creativity into an event, I'm all in.
On many weekends, you'll also find me working at Stateline Speedway. For over 16 years, I've enjoyed being part of the excitement and supporting another great community venue. When I have some quiet time, I love making crafts and creating handmade projects; it gives me a chance to unwind and be creative.
5. What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
People often see me as the energetic person behind the microphone at Chamber events. But they may not realize how much heart goes into every event and program we create. I genuinely care about our members and our community, and I take great pride in making everyone feel welcome and connected.
I also have a knack for turning just about any event into a fun theme complete with puns, decorations, and a little extra excitement. I believe business should be productive, but it should also be enjoyable.
Another fun fact:
I have a bit of a collection obsession! I own more than 75 unique and funky purses, and I absolutely love jewelry. Whether it's a bold statement necklace, colorful earrings, or the perfect handbag to match an outfit or Chamber event theme, I believe accessories are a fun way to express personality and bring a little extra joy to each day.
