ELECTION: Lesson for Idaho GOP
I hope that the leadership of the Idaho Republican party will heed the lessons of the midterm elections, or Idaho will become another Texas. The Republican party must hold to principles and not to any national leader like President Trump. President Trump has some deep personality flaws, one of which is his narcissistic tendencies. President Trump did not apply his America-first principles effectively, and he was contemptuous towards fellow Republicans who did not bow to his every whim. Furthermore, President Trump failed to present a compelling reason as to why our nation had to go to war and what sacrifices would be required by the nation to achieve victory. Plus, his management of the war showed that he was too erratic.
Republicans must hold to principles such as defense of our free market capitalist economy, liberty centered on religious freedom and the nuclear family, biological truths, free speech, Judeo-Christian heritage, and civility. No longer should the Republican party be led by a cult-of-personality.
I am grateful that Idaho has remained a red state and defeated Prop 1, but sadly Democrats have made some modest gains in the Idaho legislature and 44% of voters favoring Prop 1 was still too high. I believe that it is time for Republicans to do some deep soul-searching after this disastrous midterm election.
