Removal of Silverwood letters causes social media stir

A new park name? Tearing down Timber Terror? A new Spirit Halloween location? Making room for a data center?

These were all ideas thrown out on social media by concerned fans of Silverwood Theme Park after a photo was spread of the “Silverwood” lettering being taken down from the iconic Timber Terror rollercoaster. Alas, it’s simply maintenance.

“Every year we do maintenance once Scarywood closes, and that varies depending on what needs to be done for the upcoming season,” Silverwood’s Marketing Director Jordan Carter said. “The letters on the Timber Terror rollercoaster are ones that we need to refurbish and redo.”

Silverwood Theme Park did not realize there would be such a frenzy over the letters being removed, but once it learned of the response people had, it made sure to have some fun with it.

“The letters weren’t even all the way down before we started seeing some comments coming through, all the speculation and conspiracy theories,” Carter said. “We wanted to laugh along with it. We appreciate people posting about us and talking about us. We enjoy reading what people have to say.”

The park had noticed the paint on letters was chipping off. With plans to reconstruct the lift hill for Timber Terror, it made sense to take a look at the letters too.

“I'm not sure when the last time was that they were refurbished,” Carter said about the letters. “We're just assessing them to see if we need to recut new letters or do we just need to repaint them.”

When guests return in the spring and summer, they can expect “newer and bigger things” at the park.

“Once we get the OK to announce some of that stuff, we will let everybody know,” Carter said.
