ELECTION: What led to Dem sweep?
What factors led to the Democratic sweep of the United States House of Representatives and Senate?
The high price of fuel was no doubt a contributor. The arbitrary application of extreme tariffs was a likely factor. Probably also the alienation of long time allies played a role. An unpopular president who seems more interested in self-agrandizement while ignoring the needs and wishes of the populace undoubtably played a role. Then there is the factor the of “us versus them” rather than a concern for the “we” of the American people as seen in both Houses of Congress probably played a large role.
However, it seems that a deep yearning for a return to an overarching sense of decency was important, and encompassed to a great extent all of the above. Perhaps the lessons of civility, gentility and decency that the fortunate among us learned at our mother’s knee need to be more generously applied.
