Man imprisoned for attempted child sexual abuse
A man who exposed himself to an 11-year-old child received a prison sentence this week, according to the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Wade T. Weingart, 50, pleaded guilty in March to attempted sexual abuse of a child under the age of 16.
First District Judge John Cafferty sentenced Weingart on Monday to 12 and a half years in prison, the maximum possible sentence, with parole eligibility after eight years.
The charges stem from February, when prosecutors said Weingart cornered an 11-year-old child in a store and exposed himself. Weingart reportedly fled the scene but was soon detained by responding officers.
Prosecutors said Weingart is a registered sex offender who was on federal supervised release at the time of the crime, having been previously convicted in federal court of possessing child sexual abuse material.
