DIVISION: Possible solutions for the USA
How can the people of this nation get back to ‘we the people?’ We have been divided since the Reagan administration. Are there issues upon which we can agree?
Let’s start:
We all love our country, liberal, conservative, independent — there is no other country where each of us can choose who we want to be.
Congress has let us down. Congress could have passed a solid immigration bill years ago and did nothing for fear of losing their jobs if voters disagreed with their actions.
Do we really want to be governed by billionaires? Should we continue to allow them to buy elections?
Should members of Congress and their immediate families be allowed to trade stocks using inside information?
Do we want to continue to wage war every few years?
1. Term limits for senators, representatives, Supreme Court, and some cabinet positions.
2. A set time for campaigns and a set amount of money for each candidate to run their campaign.
3. No stock trading by Congress or their families.
4. Congress has/had war powers. Take that back. Congress must approve any war immediately.
5. Somehow, maybe via AI, non-partisan control of voting districts should be implemented.
6. Presidential pardons must be reined in. It was traditionally done by committee and maybe we should return to that.
7. Strict controls over presidential profits from business ventures tied to the office must stop including profits from relatives of president using the office for profit.
It’s a start.
