Post Falls in limbo over police chief

Post Falls is still seeking a police chief.

City Attorney Field Harrington said candidates are still being assessed by Mayor Randy Westlund.

"It is likely that the mayor will bring a name forward for council consideration in the near future," Harrington said.

Capt. Mark Brantl is currently acting chief for the Post Falls Police Department.

Post Falls officials confirmed in April that Jason Mealer was no longer employed by the city as Post Falls interim police chief. 

Mealer, a captain with the department, was named interim police chief after Chief Greg McLean retired eight months ago.

Emails sent to city staff in March indicate that Westlund had planned to nominate Mealer as police chief to council members.

The two final candidates initially brought forward for consideration were Mealer and Stu Miller, formerly of the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office.
