CHS THEATRE: “It’s a sad song!”

The final curtain came down Saturday night on the musical tragedy Hadestown: Teen Edition (Cd’A Press, April 24). A packed auditorium was treated to the outstanding acting of over 30 Coeur d’Alene High School teens directed by Jared Helm.

Stars included Harrison Pearl (Orpheus), Kaiya Killingsworth (Eurydice), Caleb Torgenson (Hades), Ava Gabbert (Persephone), Jaxon Haynie (Hermes), Fiona Knudsen (Fate 1), Nyko Mathews (Fate 2), Savannah Ward (Fate 3) and many more talented thespians!

The modernized Greek mythology script included: “There was a young girl looking for something to eat!” “It was the road to Hell. It was hard times. It was a world of gods and men!” “Way down Hadestown. Way down under the ground!” “In the coldest time of the year, why is it so hot down here? Hotter than a crucible, it ain’t right and it ain’t natural.” “Down in the River of Oblivion.”

Reminds me of other sad or scary dramas: “Gone with the Wind,” “The Grapes of Wrath,” “The Day the Earth Stood Still” and “Predator”!

Jesus tells a parable of a rich man who ignored Lazarus, a poor suffering man. The rich man went to Hades and eternal punishment, while Lazarus received Heavenly comfort (Luke 16:19-31).

“Sad Songs” continue today with scam texts exploiting the vulnerable (Press, May 1), with “smoggy” chemtrails grid-crossing our beautiful blue spring skies and with mad mullahs persecuting multitudes of their own people.
