ASSESSOR: Vote for Allyson Knapp
I had to chuckle when I received Kovacs’s postcard stating, “Restoring Fairness.”
What? He’s had six years to do so and has failed miserably. Does he know the definition of restoring? It means in part, returning something to its original former or normal condition, or bringing something back into existence, use or healthy state. All of which he has destroyed in six years. He has had five different chief deputies, constant employee turnover, a vote of no confidence by staff and constantly blaming the previous administration for his inability to do his job.
In my 33 years as an employee of the Assessor’s Office and part of the administration, we never once had to hire an outside firm to do our appraisals. We met deadlines, cared about our staff and customers. We were a team.
Kovacs wants a new computer system which would cost taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars. Changing the system that worked well with capable staff is not the answer or the problem. He needs to work within his means and trust the staff and do his job.
It breaks my heart to see the decline in customer service and employee morale. He has cost the taxpayers money because of his mismanagement of staff.
A vote for Allyson Knapp will restore fairness and honesty to the Assessor’s Office and she will have the respect of staff, department heads and the customers.
