Man dies in shooting at Stateline Speedway

A man was shot and killed at Stateline Speedway late Saturday.

According to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, preliminary information indicates the shooting stemmed from a dispute involving individuals leaving an event and the suspect attempting to drive through a crowded area.

A suspect has been detained, a press release said.

KCSO said that about 7:10 p.m., it received reports of a shooting near Stateline Speedway on North Beck Road in unincorporated Kootenai County near Post Falls.

KCSO deputies and Post Falls police officers were already in the area due to a large crowd attending the Lantern Festival at the Speedway. 

"Law enforcement responded quickly and detained the suspected shooter as the individual was leaving the area in a vehicle," the release said. "Deputies also located a deceased adult male at the scene."

The suspect is being interviewed by investigators. At this time, there is no known threat to the public, the release said.

An investigation continues.
