ASSESSOR: Don’t vote blindly

| May 8, 2026 1:00 AM

Before you vote for the next county assessor ask yourself if the current one has done a good job? He is asking for our vote and wants us to say he deserves another term. I’m not claiming he did a bad job or that he can’t do the job, but there is public knowledge of issues regarding his management of the department and reduction in salary for a time, causing trickle-down decisions along with struggles behind closed doors.

I again am not saying he was wrong or wasn’t justified in actions. However, I am a landowner of 17 years in the county and currently pay taxes on that property that I feel is criminal. I believe the value is what you bought it for and should remain that value until either you request a reevaluation for whatever purpose you have for needing or when you sell for whatever amount you agreed to sell, for the next owner to then pay property tax of that value.

Sitting in an office using satellite mapping to drive property values to triple with crazy swings in values of property and dwelling on property with zero improvements or request for said assessment. His justification, whether for the county budget or to justify his salary/staff and operations is moot. It’s unrealized gain of value that is now taxed and taxed again and again. Opening the doors for Ponzi scheme “deed restricted affordable housing.”

Please don’t vote blindly!
