Schweitzer wrapping up season April 5

Schweitzer announced it plans to close for the season April 5.

"After losing two feet of snowpack in the past two weeks, the resort’s final day of operation comes a week earlier than expected due to deteriorating conditions," a press release said.

Tom Chasse, president and COO of Schweitzer, said it was a difficult winter.

“Resorts within our region and across the West were challenged with delayed openings, unseasonably warm temperatures, dramatic rain and wind events, and significantly less natural snowfall than we’ve seen in decades," he said. "The fact that we maintained operations consecutively from December to April feels like something we should be proud of considering the circumstances.”

Schweitzer opened for the 25/26 winter season Dec. 3. Total snowfall for the season is currently 164 inches at the Village level, which is 54% lower than an average winter season. During the 24/25 winter season, the resort finished with a total of 292 inches.

“I want to thank our staff for their unmatched optimism, their adaptability and for showing up each day with positivity, something that we affectionately call the Schweitzer Difference,” said Chasse. “In addition, our pass holders are the heart of our mountain community and continue to gear up and make the most of it. We even have several folks who have skied or boarded every day we’ve been open.”

Silver Mountain and Lookout remain open and have not set closing dates.
