‘Accidental lockdown’ lifted at Hayden Meadows Elementary

A “mechanical issue” triggered an accidental lockdown at Hayden Meadows Elementary around 8:30 a.m. Monday, according to the Coeur d’Alene School District.

“We want to reassure you that everyone is safe and there was no danger to students or staff,” said a message sent Monday morning to families of Hayden Meadows students. “We know this situation happened right as the school day was beginning and may have felt hectic or concerning for families.” 

The lockdown was initiated “due to a mechanical issue” that triggered safety protocols, according to the district. 

As part of those protocols, local law enforcement responded to the school to make sure the building was safe. After authorities checked the campus, they determined there was no threat and lifted the lockdown. Normal operations resumed at the school. 

“We understand that situations like this can be unsettling,” a message to families said. “The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. We are grateful for the quick response from law enforcement and for the calm, professional way our staff and students handled the situation.”
