St. Patrick's Day celebration set for Saturday in downtown CDA

Woody McEvers is no longer Coeur d'Alene's mayor, but he's still in the spotlight.

McEvers will be the grand marshal for the 21st annual St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 14 in downtown Coeur d'Alene.

He was fitted for his kilt and jacket on Thursday at All Things Irish.

"It's going to be a great day," he said, smiling.

The Coeur d'Alene Downtown Association, in partnership with Idaho Central Credit Union, presents the parade with the theme, "Emerald City."

Leprechauns, musicians, a costumed Guinness character, a float and Irish wolfhounds plan to stroll down Sherman Avenue starting at 3 p.m. at Eighth and Sherman and travel west to First Street. 

A few hundred people, many decked out in green coats, shirts and hats, come out for the celebration and line the street.

"Events like the St. Patrick's Day Parade highlight what makes Downtown Coeur d’Alene so special,” said Emily Boyd, executive director of the Coeur d’Alene Downtown Association. “It’s a chance for the community to come together, celebrate, and support the amazing local businesses that make our downtown vibrant.”

Kari Kemp is the Irish Woman of the Year. Cody Craig was selected Irish Man of the Year. 

The parade generally attracts about 25 entries and lasts about 30 minutes.

Another Irish-themed happening in downtown Coeur d’Alene is Hunt for O’Sherman. The free scavenger hunt seeks the end of the rainbow, with a chance to win gift card prizes.

The weather forecast for Saturday is calling for rain with highs in the 40s.
