New director for 3rd Avenue Marketplace

POST FALLS — Molli Nixon jumped into her new role as executive director of 3rd Avenue Marketplace by presenting awards at the Post Falls Chamber of Commerce’s annual Community Recognition reception Wednesday. 

Nixon takes the helm of the Marketplace on Sunday, replacing Charlene Holbrook, who was hired in March 2025.

Holbrook said that although her time as executive director was short, she was grateful to lead the organization in its mission to fight food insecurity.   

“This role was always intended to be a short-term commitment while we searched for a long-term executive director," Holbrook said. "It has truly been an honor to serve alongside such a caring team and witness the incredible compassion of this community." 

The 3rd Avenue Marketplace seeks to end hunger and poverty in Kootenai County and offers a grocery store setting where residents can "shop" for their food with dignity." 

The organization also offers a backpack program that feeds children and hosts a Senior Cafe where seniors can form connections.

Nixon is a North Idaho native originally from St. Maries. She previously ran the Coeur d’Alene and Hayden branches of the Idaho Central Credit Union.  

“With years of experience in banking and six years of service on our board of drectors, Molli brings both expertise and a deep passion for our mission," Holbrook said. "I am confident the organization will continue to grow and thrive under her leadership." 

Nixon hopes to establish further the dignity, compassion, and empowerment that Marketplace represents.  

“The benefit to the kids with the backpack program just hits me in the heart," Nixon said. "I have two little boys and I just think it’s so important."

Nixon sees the organization's mission as securing food and other resources for people who need them and continuing to fundraise to be there for the community. 

“It’s about respect and dignity," Nixon said. "The need just continues to grow, so we need to grow to fit that need," Nixon said. 

Nixon has been a board member at the 3rd Avenue Marketplace for 6 years and is excited to help make a difference. 

“I love to help people and it’s one more step, one more level that I can help others. It's a bigger impact that can benefit people,” Nixon said. 

    3rd Avenue Marketplace Executive Director Charlene Holbrook places donated groceries into a cart at North Idaho Arms during a food drive. Holbrook is retiring from the position as of March 1.
