Dalton Gardens to hold Fourth of July celebration

The city of Dalton Gardens will host a Fourth of July picnic and America250 celebration July 4 from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Newcomb Memorial Park.

The day begins with an opening ceremony featuring the posting of the colors, the Pledge of Allegiance, patriotic reflections and the dedication of two new park features.

"We know there are many wonderful events planned throughout the Fourth of July, and we hope your day includes spending time with friends and neighbors as we celebrate our shared heritage, reflect on what it means to be American, and enjoy an afternoon of food, games, contests, and community fellowship," said Dalton Gardens Mayor Curt Jernigan in a press release.   

Afterward will be the free picnic with hot dogs, snow cones, popcorn, cotton candy and more. Activities include carnival games, a bounce house, horse rides, a dunk tank, door prizes, a pie contest and a patriotic pet photo contest. 

"This is a once-in-a lifetime Fourth of July. Two hundred and fifty years ago, 56 men affixed their names to the Declaration of Independence, setting in motion a bold experiment in self-government that the world has ever known," Jernigan said. "May the voice of the people always be heard, and may this great nation continue to uphold a government of the people, by the people, and for the people." 

Registration forms for the pie contest and the patriotic pet photo contest must be submitted to the city by Wednesday.
