FIREWORKS: Fourth not an excuse for illegal acts

Speaking for myself, I like to enjoy LEGAL fireworks. It’s the illegal ones that I detest, as does our 15-year-old deaf dog. It’s sad to see my neighbors outside, not to watch the legal or illegal fireworks, but to have the hose ready just in case. Last year, I gathered two gallon-size baggies of remnants that were in our front and back yards and a fire started on a neighboring lawn. 

In reply to Mr. Calderwood’s comment published June 24, I would like to know where he lives that he gets to enjoy 364 days of “quiet and peace.” Our neighborhood has kids running up and down the sidewalks yelling, dogs barking for hours on end, planes/helicopters taking off and landing, 4-wheelers and motor scooters roaring down the streets. I guess he can’t hear the fireworks at The Resort on New Years’ Eve or the Super Bowl parties either. And yes, law enforcement knows it a holiday, just as they know that there are multiple holidays throughout the year.

July 4 should be a celebration, not an excuse to commit an illegal act. There isn’t one day a year designated that people can run stop signs. There isn’t one day a year that people can illegaly park in a handicap spot. There isn’t one day a year that people can buy and use illegal drugs without consequences.

I spoke with law enforcement that oversees the city of Hayden. I was told that if I video my neighbor(s) blowing off illegal fireworks, I can bring it to the station and a citation will follow. No abuse of the law enforcement system there.
