BOATS: Move surf contest to Cd’A?
With the large waves created by the numerous surf boats on Lake Coeur d’Alene, perhaps the Duke Kahanamoku Surf Contest should relocate here this year.
On a more serious note, the problem of surf boats operating too close to docks and shorelines needs to be addressed. The lake is meant for everyone’s enjoyment, but the large wakes and the damage they cause cannot be ignored. Our new docks already have damage from the high wakes along with the constant rocking and bouncing of our boats and wave ridders.
Designating specific areas of the lake for wake-surfing and other high-wake activities would make sense and could help balance recreation with safety, property protection, and environmental concerns.
It is time to find a practical solution before the problem gets out of hand. By working together now, we can preserve Lake Coeur d’Alene for everyone who uses and enjoys it.
