NOISE: Find quiet somewhere else

| July 12, 2026 1:00 AM

Let me politely say this to anyone that is bothered by noise while referring too “the downtown” of Coeur d’Alene: Stop whining like a 3-year-old at a pool party. Let it go, maybe you need a vacation. May I suggest Montana, heard it’s very nice. Mufflers, over-revving motors, skateboards on the sidewalk (wow!), kids chewing bubblegum, people running in flip flops, the list is endless.

Let’s assume your confused as what downtowns are, shall we? I have lived here for 35 years and can tell you I want the sounds back that made this city great (and destroyed it by muting those sounds). Sounds of sawmills running, barges operating, heavy trucks with jakes on, equipment at full throttle, burnouts, flame throwing contests, no mufflers at all, good music way too loud, conversations, laughter, police whistles.

You want quiet? There’s millions of acres to find zero noise from people, so head there. Downtown is where the noise is supposed to be. Loud as possible, because life and people make noise to let you know things are happening. You can’t expect bees to change the smell of crap cause you hate flies and love flowers.
