Rathdrum father charged with attempted murder of child
Police arrested a Rathdrum man Friday night who allegedly admitted to abusing his child, causing serious injuries and leaving her in critical condition, according to the Rathdrum Police Department.
Aaron Dyk, 32, is charged with attempted murder and injury to a child, both felonies.
The charges stem from Friday night, when Rathdrum police officers responded to a medical assist at Highway 41 involving a preteen girl who needed medical care, according to police. Northern Lakes Fire transported the girl to Kootenai Health.
Dyk allegedly admitted to injuring the girl nearly a week earlier and said he had noticed changes in her health since then, according to police.
The girl was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center for further treatment. Authorities said her condition is critical.
Police arrested Dyk and booked him into jail after 1 a.m. Saturday. He remains in the Kootenai County jail.
The investigation is ongoing.
