Michael Wayne Magnus; Oct. 15, 1964 — June 29, 2026

With deep love and sadness, we announce the passing of Michael Wayne Magnus, who left this world June 29, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Born on Oct. 15, 1964, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Michael lived a life filled with passion, creativity and generosity. His warm heart, infectious laughter and unwavering kindness touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Michael graduated from the Lakeland School District in 1982. An Honor Roll student, he excelled as a wrestler, served as a junior high-class officer, and was an active member of the student council. Although he received an appointment to the Merchant Marine Academy, he chose instead to pursue his passion for carpentry — a decision that led to a remarkable and fulfilling career.

Throughout his career, Michael traveled extensively, helping build military housing across the country. He earned numerous accolades for his craftsmanship, particularly his specialty windows and construction work. Later, he founded Rimrock Carpentry in North Idaho, where his innovative spirit transformed homes and businesses while creating beautifully handcrafted chairs and tables that will be treasured for years to come.

Never one to stop learning, Michael earned his A+ Certification through North Idaho College and built countless computers for himself, family and friends.

Michael's interests were as diverse as his talents. He loved music and spent time as an internet DJ, sharing his passion with listeners around the world. He was an avid soccer fan and a proud supporter of the Gonzaga Bulldogs. A certified scuba diver, he completed more than 30 open-water dives, embracing every opportunity for adventure.

One final act reflected the generosity that defined his life: Michael became an organ donor, giving the gift of life to others, just as he gave so much of himself to everyone he met.

American by birth but Scottish at heart, Michael cherished many trips to Scotland with his beloved wife, Elaine. He fell deeply in love with the country's history and culture, proudly wearing both a traditional Scottish kilt and a work kilt whenever he had the chance.

Above all else, Michael will be remembered for the way he made people feel. His warm hugs, quick wit, generous spirit and unforgettable sense of humor brought comfort and joy to countless family members and friends. He delighted in making cheesecakes for family gatherings and special occasions, and those lucky enough to share one of his perfectly marinated steaks knew they were enjoying one of his many expressions of love.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Wayne O. Magnus; his grandparents, Edna and Martin Magnus; and Louise Hooker and Alva Fountain Jr.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Elaine; his daughter, Jamie Flanagan; his stepdaughter, Tasmin Scott (James); his beloved step-grandchildren, Thomas, Jack, Hayden and Harper Scott, who lovingly called him "Grandpa Mike"; his mother, Betty J. Fountain-Magnus; his brother, Lee Magnus (Ligia); his nieces, Natalie, Karina and Veronica Magnus; and numerous cousins, extended family members and dear friends who will forever miss his hugs, smiles, laughter and jokes.

Although Michael is no longer with us in person, his love, generosity and spirit live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered and forever loved. May he be reunited with those who went before him and welcomed with the same warm hugs he so freely gave throughout his life.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 8134 N. Meyer Road, Post Falls, ID 83854.

In honor of Michael's joyful spirit, guests are encouraged to wear bright, happy colors. He would want the day to be filled with smiles, laughter and the love of family and friends.
