Fourth of July crowds coming

The Coeur d'Alene Regional Chamber, the city of Coeur d'Alene and local public safety agencies are preparing for heavy crowds and traffic impacts during the Fourth of July Celebration, themed "From Liberty to Legacy" in honor of America's 250th birthday.

More than 70,000 people are expected to attend the city's Independence Day celebration.

Road closures and parking restrictions will begin July 1, with the Kiddie Parade scheduled for July 2 and the American Heroes Parade on July 4. 

On Independence Day, Sherman Avenue will close in phases beginning at 5 a.m., with the parade starting at 10 a.m. and roads reopening around 1 p.m. 

Vehicles parked in restricted areas will be towed.

Festivities continue Saturday afternoon at City Park with live entertainment, food, artisan vendors, family activities and lakefront recreation. 

The celebration concludes with the annual fireworks display over Lake Coeur d'Alene at dusk, 9:30 to 9:45 p.m.

Officials encourage residents and visitors to arrive early, expect delays downtown, follow posted parking restrictions and use recommended I-90 access routes to help reduce congestion.
