FIREWORKS: Responding to Calderwood

| July 1, 2026 1:00 AM

In regard to Mr. Calderwood’s letter, from quite a few of us in Hayden: Where to start here, wow! OK, well first off, our so-called brave founders stole the land and were far from anything brave, but OK, let’s stick to the fireworks issue here.

Living in a neighborhood near the airport and 95, we’re used to noise and don’t complain at all, until the few weeks around the lovely Fourth of July holiday; and nobody ever complains about kids using the small firework stuff that are legally permitted (mine do this). Which brings me to the bigger point: So your admission is that police are not enforcing the law by laughing at the illegal fireworks that a big percentage of people actually hate!?

Nothing says freedom like someone using illegal fireworks and blowing up the neighborhood! More like freedumb. You obviously don’t have pets or a neighbor who fought in a war with PTSD and hates the illegal fireworks! Enjoy your holiday and freedom sir, but your letter was just ridiculous in our opinion. Sincerely, many local people.
