Post Falls Legion announces Oratorical Contest winners
Sandpoint High School senior Cecilia Dignan-Omodt captured combined titles in the 2026 American Legion Oratorical Contest for Post Falls American Legion Post 143, Idaho District 1 and Area 1.
This year’s event combined the Post 143, District 1 and Area 1 competitions into a single, high-stakes multilevel contest held Jan. 10 at the Post Falls Post.
“This multilevel contest brought together some of North Idaho’s brightest young minds, and the level of preparation and passion on display was truly inspiring,” Vic Parrish, Oratorical Contest chairman for Post 143, said in a Jan. 13 news release.
Cecilia's oration was "Antiquated or Relevant,” which earned high marks from judges for her confidence, excellent audience engagement and powerful opening, competition organizers said in the news release.
As the overall champion, Cecilia will advance to represent the region Feb. 21 at the Department of Idaho Oratorical Contest in Meridian. The state winner will proceed to the national finals at Hillsdale College in Michigan, with scholarship opportunities up to $25,000.
The local contest featured high school students who delivered prepared speeches on the U.S. Constitution for eight to 10 minutes each. They also delivered extemporaneous orations of three to five minutes on assigned constitutional topics. Judges commended the participants’ preparation, historical knowledge and commitment to civic education, and offered constructive feedback on delivery, transitions and audience engagement.
Final results and scholarship awards:
• First place — Cecilia Dignan-Omodt, Sandpoint High School, Sandpoint: $800
• Second place — Elijah Harrison, Trinity Home Educators, Coeur d’Alene: $500
• Third place — Evangeline Krombein, Logos Online School, Hauser: $300
“Cecilia’s commanding performance earned her top honors, and we’re excited to support her journey to the state contest," Parrish said. "Elijah and Evangeline also delivered exceptional orations and represent the future of informed citizenship. All our participants honored our veterans’ legacy and strengthened our community.”
Post 143 also recognized the strong participation of Alyssa Harrison, Trinity Home Educators, Coeur d’Alene, whose dedication and performance further enriched the event.
