NATO: Hope to repair relationship with US allies

To our many NATO allies, I wish to express my deep appreciation for your past friendship. I know most Americans agree, despite the current rhetoric you’ve been hearing. Article V of the NATO treaty has only been invoked once since NATO came into being, and it was when you all came to our aid in the aftermath of 9/11.  

As one veteran to another, I specifically want to thank all those brave service members from your ranks who stood with us, both in support positions and on the front lines. Your devotion is both noted and will not be forgotten, even as some among us ignore or dismiss your sacrifice. Given time, my hope is that we will repair the needless damage recently inflicted upon our partnership.
