STUDY: Spend the money at home

| January 16, 2026 1:00 AM

Read the article that the city is going to spend $55,000 to see if wages in Coeur d’Alene are comparable to other cities. Which cities — are they just in Idaho, maybe California, New York or some of the southern states?

$55,000 for this survey and add to that an $185 hourly fee if more is needed to complete it. Do you know anyone who makes $185 an hour? Certainly not anyone in Coeur d’Alene.

So what happens if the survey shows we are lower than other cities that are comparable to Coeur d’Alene? How many city employees do we have, how do you decide which employees get the raises? Do we then raise our taxes?

I am sure we could find some competent employee in Coeur d’Alene, pay them just half of the $185 an hour on the side and they would be tickled money to do this survey.
