State Rep. Doug Pickett was elected assistant majority leader of the Idaho House of Representatives on Sunday, one of several committee changes Idaho legislators made in connection with the opening of the 2026 legislative session.

Pickett, R-Oakley, succeeds former House Assistant Majority Leader Josh Tanner R-Eagle, who left his leadership position to become co-chair of the Idaho Legislature’s Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee, or JFAC.

“As a member of leadership, I’ll continue to work for the best interests of all Idahoans and to defend conservative values,” Pickett said in a written statement released by House Republicans. “It’s an honor to be chosen for this position, and I look forward to serving the people of this great state.”

Pickett’s new position on the GOP leadership team was one of several changes legislators made with the new session opening.

Rep. Dale Hawkins, R-Fernwood, was named chairman of the House Education Committee, replacing Pickett, who remains on the committee but stepped down as chairman to join the ranks of the Republican leadership team.

Rep. Jordan Redman, R- Coeur d’Alene, was named chairman of the House Business Committee, taking over for former Rep. Lance Clow, R-Twin Falls, who resigned from the Idaho Legislature last year.

Rep. Jerald Raymond, R-Menan, was named chairman of the House Agricultural Affairs Committee, taking over for former Rep. Kevin Andrus, R-Lava Hot Springs, who resigned from the Idaho Legislature last year.
