3 North Idaho legislators like Little's speech
The Press reached out to North Idaho legislators Monday for their reaction to Gov. Brad Little's State of the State address. Here are the statements of those who responded.
"I’m excited to hear the Governor emphasize fiscal responsibility, and one time and ongoing reductions in spending; I know there will be strong support in the legislature for this. However, he built a wall around education, which is about half of the state’s budget, and especially his ill-conceived Launch program. And there was no mention of Medicaid, another huge chunk of our spending. I don’t know how we can be fiscally responsible if 70% of the budget is sacrosanct. As always, the devil is in the details, and we have not as yet seen the Governor’s numbers."
— Rep. Joe Alfieri
"We have a lot of work to do with the budget this year. The revenue shortfall has put us in a unique situation of looking forward to making sure the programs in place are right for the people and the state of Idaho.
"I appreciate the efforts of the Governor’s office and the plan they have initiated. We as a legislature will now do our job of reviewing and refining where needed."
— Rep. Elaine Price
"I appreciate Gov. Brad Little for his thoughtful and forward-looking State of the State address today, particularly the emphasis on preserving our public lands, the MAHA (Make America Healthy Again) agenda for our state, including the praise of my bill from last year removing candy and soda from SNAP benefits, state budget reductions and fiscal responsibility and cutting additional red tape and regulations on Idahoans. These are all topics I am passionate about and working on this legislative session. I look forward to seeing these priorities come to fruition in the legislative session ahead."
— Rep. Jordan Redman
