TRUSTEE: Lakeland grateful for retiring Bob Jones

The Lakeland community would like to thank Bob Jones for four years of service as Lakeland school board trustee. His willingness to run in 2021 and come out of retirement speaks volumes about his dedication to our kids, families and community. 

We are deeply grateful not only for the growth he helped foster during his earlier tenure as Lakeland Joint School District Superintendent, but also for the wisdom he brought to the board during four very challenging years as trustee — which were marked by two levy failures, significant cultural challenges, and multiple leadership transitions within the district.

His deep understanding of students, staff, district issues, and education as a whole has been invaluable. His sense of humor, willingness to listen to diverse perspectives, and prompt responses to phone calls and emails reflect his kind and thoughtful nature. His measured words, financial acumen, and collaborative approach were so appreciated. He consistently prioritized data-informed decision-making, maintained accountability to the community, and respected the distinct roles of the board and district staff. 

Throughout his service, he remained a visionary leader focused on the most important aspect of any school district — student success.

While we are sad to see him step away from this role and wish he could stay, we are happy for him personally. Above all, we are profoundly grateful for his legacy of excellence and leadership, and wish him all the very best in the years ahead.
