1) What is your favorite reptile and why?

Hmm ... that's a good question. I would have to say my favorite reptile is the Komodo dragon. He is immense, dinosaur-looking and there's even evidence that he secretes venom as well. All around a cool reptile!

2) What are some misconceptions about our cold-blooded friends that you would like to clear up for us?

I think one of the main misconceptions about reptiles and amphibians is that they are really hard to keep as pets. "Cold blooded" animals rely on outside temperatures to regulate their metabolism. In other words, a reptile owner has to have the right temperatures in the tank, the right substance, the right humidity, etc. If an owner is not providing that, day by day your reptile is getting sicker and sicker.

3)How old were you when you fell in love with animals, and why did you become a veterinarian?

I honestly can't remember the "day" I wanted to become a veterinarian. All I remember is I always loved animals and I think my mom put it in my head that I should be a vet. 

4) What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

Many people are surprised that I play the bass and drums. I've been playing the drums since college and started playing the bass guitar over 15 years ago. Hard to believe it's been that long. I still think I'm an "advanced" beginner!

5) What are a few impressive or amazing facts about reptiles?

I still think it's cool the way the reptiles have individualized personalities. For example, my blue--tongued skink is ALWAYS hungry, especially for worms; my tortoise is shy and always thinks I'm going to eat him; and my bearded dragon is always giving me that sideways "look" like, "What's the plan for day? Is it time for breakfast?"
