RASMUSSEN: Right about medical access

I read with great interest Rick Rasmussen’s very well written and insightful commentary in the My Turn space this morning. Friends and neighbors, he has it right: we must address this very obvious lack of access to care on all fronts. 

To our Legislators, we rank at or near the bottom of just about every metric you can find in terms of medical access, education, residency slots. Just pick one and the news is not good. Please do something to move the needle, there is plenty of opportunity. 

To my fellow taxpayers, you get what you pay for. If you are unwilling to invest in our medical education pipeline, you may as well get used to long waits whenever you seek some type of healthcare. I hope the wait doesn’t cost you something more than your money.  

More shared seats with WWAMI and the University of Utah? You bet! More residencies in the state? Absolutely! Our own state-run medical school, why not? WSU figured it out in the not-too-distant past.

This is going to take a while to fix, but it’s past due. Let’s get going.
