Election season opens with online filing

With filing periods opening soon, candidates for elected offices across Idaho will now file online, the Idaho Secretary of State’s Office announced Wednesday.

New this year, all candidates will file at VoteIdaho.gov, using a secure system that allows candidates statewide to complete their filing and submit payment electronically in one place. 

This change eliminates the previous need for candidates to travel to the Capitol in Boise to file in person. 

“We are excited to kick off the election season with a streamlined process for candidates across Idaho,” said Secretary of State Phil McGrane. “We look forward to the year ahead and appreciate Idahoans’ effort to seek public service.” 

Statewide and legislative candidates now have a one-week filing period, running from 8 a.m. local time Feb. 23 through 5 p.m. local time Feb. 27. 

A filing period for county and local offices, as well as precinct committeemen, will also be hosted at VoteIdaho.gov. The county filing period runs from 8 a.m. local time March 2 through 5 p.m. local time March 13. 

In Kootenai County, most county-level positions are up for election this year. Partisan ballots for the May primary election will include candidates for assessor, clerk, coroner and treasurer, as well as county commissioner seats for District 1 and District 2. 

Precinct committeemen positions will also appear on partisan ballots. 

Candidates who choose to submit signatures instead of paying the filing fee will continue to submit them directly to the appropriate filing office.
