MARINA: Article misrepresents expansion

| February 15, 2026 1:00 AM

Your article states nearby residents’ reaction has been “generally positive.” This misrepresents significant community opposition.

FACTS: The marina included three support letters in their application — all from parties who directly benefit (western neighbor, marina customers, waitlist customer). In contrast, multiple households have submitted and are intending to submit opposition letters documenting serious concerns.

The marina General Manager admitted in our Feb. 10 meeting that only two neighbors were consulted during 2.5 years of planning. The Hayden Lake Watershed Association — mentioned in your article — has raised concerns, not support.

Critical issues not covered in your article: TRAFFIC SAFETY: The marina entrance is located where E Tobler Road merges with E Hayden Lake Road. A 15% increase in marina traffic at this exact location creates daily safety hazards for residents attempting to merge. No traffic study provided. PARKING PROBLEM: The parking plan uses residential-zoned property (R1) for commercial marina parking. This zoning incompatibility is not addressed in the application. COMMERCIAL MOTIVATION: The marina GM disclosed the expansion is needed “to pay for capital invested” — corporate ROI, not “public need” as claimed in the application. The public hearing will allow full examination of these concerns. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: No meaningful consideration given by applicant or your article. The community deserves balanced reporting, not just the applicant’s narrative.
