Post Falls resident begins Peace Corps service
McKenzie Chan of Post Falls is a new member of the Peace Corps. Chan will depart for Costa Rica on March 15 to begin training as an elementary English teacher.
Chan is a 2025 graduate of Seattle Pacific University with a bachelor’s degree in literature.
“I am passionate about both education and bridging cultural borders, so volunteering with the Peace Corps provides the perfect opportunity to put these passions into action,” said Chan in a press release.
As an elementary English teacher in Costa Rica, Chan will work with local school staff to strengthen English language instruction and the students’ proficiency.
The daughter of Jaime and Zac Chan of Post Falls, Chan joins the 29 Idaho residents currently serving in the Peace Corps. More than 1,491 Idaho residents have served in the Peace Corps since 1961.
Peace Corps volunteers serve in host communities for two years after three months of training and receive a living stipend, housing, extensive language and technical training, and financial benefits, including graduate school fellowships after service.
“I look forward to applying my skills in a new context and growing in collaboration with local educators," Chan said.
