HWY DISTRICTS: Proposed funding reductions alarming

Dear Governor Little and Members of the Idaho Legislature,

I am writing on behalf of the Associated Highway Districts of Kootenai County to express our serious concern regarding proposed reductions to strategic initiatives funding. For our four highway districts, these funds total $4,656,792.62 and are essential for maintaining the local highway system that supports our region’s economic growth.

This funding is critical for road repairs, bridge maintenance, and safety installations necessary to accommodate Kootenai County’s rapid population growth. Furthermore, these resources allow us to complete vital infrastructure projects without increasing the financial burden on local property taxpayers. Reducing this support would force delays in essential work, likely leading to higher longterm costs and the deterioration of our transportation network.

We urge the Legislature to maintain the current strategic initiatives funding to ensure our highway system remains safe and capable of supporting the transport of goods and residents.
