We're all football fans this week
Super Bowl Sunday is just a few days away. I enjoy the hoopla of the Super Bowl despite knowing very little about the game of football, but what’s not to love about a day dedicated to consuming a week’s worth of carbs, calories and cholesterol, camaraderie and some of the most outrageous and creative television commercials. Oh, and football.
I don’t intend to compete with resident sports gurus Mark Nelke and Steve Cameron, I’m just here for the party!
Although I’ve watched more regular season football this past year and the majority of the postseason games. While I can’t claim exulted “12” status, I consider the Seahawks as my home team. I’m somewhere between a band-wagoner and a die-hard 12th Man.
I never miss a Super Bowl game, but it’s far more exciting when you have a dog in the fight. I’m a fan of the backstories of athletes and this year the Super Bowl spotlight is on the two quarterbacks. What’s not to love about the redemption journey of veteran Sam Darnold of the Seahawks? And then there’s “baby quarterback,” Drake Maye of the Patriots playing in the Super Bowl one season removed from being a first-round, third-overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
Seattle, on the Pacific Ocean, and Foxborough, Mass., on the Atlantic, are 3,000 miles apart, as the crow flies. Come Sunday, the East Coast and West Coast will be up close and personal.
I’ll be cheering for Seattle and for an exciting afternoon of football. Oh, and an incredible array of potluck masterpieces at the American Legion in Post Falls. Go Hawks!

Important to know ... heart disease claims the lives of more women each year than all forms of cancer combined. More women than men die of heart disease every year. Feb. 6 is Go Red for Women Day, to increase awareness during Heart Health Month.

Those of us who've spent decades here don't need a rodent and his shadow to tell us there's six more weeks of winter. More often than not, March comes in and goes out like a lion. Mother Nature isn't done with us yet. It's called winter in North Idaho.
