Spokane Airport announces PFAS contamination in residential wells

Seventeen residential wells near the Spokane International Airport have tested positive for harmful chemicals, according to a press release on Tuesday. 

The affected wells tested positive for perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, commonly known as PFAS.

According to the release, they received 287 requests from residents to sample drinking water wells within the testing boundary. 

"The Spokane International Airport remains committed to supporting the West Plains community as we work toward identifying sustainable solutions to impacted residents," per the press release. 

The Spokane International Airport thanked the city of Spokane and Spokane County for providing filtered pitchers, countertop filtered dispensers and food-grade containers for filling at the Garden Springs Station and point of entry systems to impacted residents. 

"We will continue to provide updates and engage directly with affected residents," per the press release.
