The families of Bonnie Carpenter wish to acknowledge the genuine kindness shown by the staff of Hospice of North Idaho at the recent passing of our loved one.

This facility is beautiful, and the entire staff showed compassion, expertise, and consideration for our every need. Thank you Hospice staff for blessing us during this difficult time.

FROM IDAHO WITH LOVE: A community that cares

Sometimes a tragedy reminds us of the very best in people.

When more than 700 families in the Spokane area lost their homes in the recent fires, the Coeur d’Alene City Council, Kootenai County Task Force on Human Relations, and Human Rights Education Institute came together to launch “From Idaho with Love.” We asked our North Idaho community to help by donating gently used or new clothing, household goods, bedding, toiletries, kitchen items and other necessities.

What happened next was truly inspiring.

The Human Rights Education Institute opened its doors as our collection center, and soon three rooms were filled with donations. Volunteers sorted, organized and packed everything for families in need. Trucks and trailers carried the donations to Spokane, along with a powerful message: You are not alone. Your neighbors care.

Volunteers were in awe of our community’s generosity. People gave what they could and volunteered simply because they wanted to help.

A special thank-you goes to Jeanette Laster, who opened the Human Rights Education Institute and worked tirelessly to organize the volunteers and donations.

To everyone who donated, volunteered, sorted, packed, loaded or delivered — thank you.

You showed Spokane what North Idaho is all about: compassion, kindness, respect and community.

Most importantly, you showed our neighbors that when they are hurting, we will stand beside them.

From Idaho with love, indeed.
