TAXES: Property evaluation disconnect
There seems to be a little disconnect on property taxes and property evaluation. The higher our homes and businesses are reevaluated each year, our property taxes follow without any input by the population.
Other than going down and complaining at the county offices, what recourse do we have? You either pay up or your house is confiscated and sold off to begin its cycle again.
But it seems when our bureaucrats want to raise taxes to offset a shortfall, no one ever talks about the increase in revenue collected from this vicious merry-go-round. All you have to do is look at the real estate advertisements and choke on the prices of homes being sold, when last year or the year before when they were cheaper, which to me equals more property taxes collected. So why the talk of raising taxes when it is automatic from higher evaluations?
