PROPERTY TAX: Raising rates isn't a solution

I moved from Seattle to Post Falls eight years ago. Every time Seattle and King County had financial woes they always figured if they raised property taxes it would fix the problem, just like Post Falls city is considering. It never did. Before the city decides to raise the property tax they should look to other cities and see if raising the taxes has benefited anyone. In 2018, the year I left Seattle, my property taxes were $5,015 a year. In 2026 they are $7,894. If affordable housing is a concern, if property taxes are raised year after year as they were in Seattle, people won’t be able to afford a house, not based on its price but because the property taxes are so high.
