How did their actions and service contribute to our country becoming independent?"
Open to grades 5-8 300-1,000 words depending on grade level.
Submit student essays to [email protected]. The deadline is Nov. 7.
Local members of DAR have also created a 30-minute educational program to share with fifth to eighth grade students in the Coeur d’Alene area.
The presentation highlights the upcoming America 250 celebration July 4, 2026, with a focus on the 250th anniversary of the “Shot Heard Round the World" that happened at Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775.
Presenters will lead a sing-along of the 13 colonies, a reading of Ralph Waldo Emerson’s "Concord Hymn," which was originally read at the 100th anniversary of the battle and share family stories from descendants of those who fought in the American Revolution to help students connect with history in a meaningful and memorable way.
