Woman granted new probation after probation violation

A woman who pleaded guilty to child sexual abuse and later violated the terms of her probation was placed on probation again, according to the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Jayden N. Gasper pleaded guilty in December 2023 to sexual abuse of a child under the age of 16, a felony. Prosecutors said Gasper, aged 19 at the time, had sexually abused two children under the age of 14. 

In exchange for Gasper’s guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to dismiss an additional charge and recommend an imposed three-year prison sentence. 

First District Judge Scott Wayman sentenced Gasper to 10 years in prison with parole eligibility after three years, according to the prosecutor’s office. 

Wayman opted to retain jurisdiction in the case and place Gasper in a prison treatment program, also called a rider, for up to a year, at which point Wayman would either release Gasper on probation or send her back to prison. After eight months, Wayman decided to place Gasper on probation for four years. 

Prosecutors said Gasper violated the terms of her probation in June by “failing to appear for a scheduled meeting with her probation officer and for quitting her job without prior permission from her probation officer.” 

Gasper admitted to the probation violation, according to court records, and First District Judge Ross Pittman released her onto a new four-year probation term.
