FAST FIVE Wander through Briar Layne with Rachel Lunde

Meet Rachel Lunde, a local crafting mama and avid book reader who has always loved creating things and wanted to combine her love for books with her crafting background to make and create fun, exciting items for others to love as much as she does.

1) Who or what is Briar Layne?

I wanted my company name to represent something that sounded like it was out of a fairytale. I’ve always loved to craft and create things. I have always been a complete book-reading nerd. I really wanted to combine my love for reading and crafting and start making lots of fun, different accessories and book-related items people could purchase that are fun, colorful and affordable.

2) When and why did you become an artisan, and how do you create your pieces?

Honestly, I’ve always been a crafter. I just wanted to have a store or booth where anybody could come in, whether it was a kid whose mom gave them $5 or grandma trying to buy gifts for her 1,700 grandkids for Christmas on a limited budget. I love going to craft shows, but sometimes the prices can be a little bit hefty for the average person. I wanted to create things that were cute but also extremely affordable for the average person 

3) Where do you come up with your whimsical, colorful ideas?

A lot of the things are inspired by books that I read or am reading. 

4) What is something people would be surprised to know about you? 

I’m not really sure what to put for this question. I’m sort of one of those loud, outgoing heart-on-my-sleeve people. I'm an open book, so most people wouldn’t be surprised by a lot when it comes to me.
