Man gets 25-year sentence for child sexual exploitation

COEUR d’ALENE — A man who possessed child sexual abuse material and failed to update his sex offender registry information will spend up to 25 years in prison, according to the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

William W. Feeney, 41, pleaded guilty in July to sexual exploitation of children by possession of sexually exploitative material and enticing a child through the internet, both felonies. 

First District Judge Barry McHugh sentenced Feeney this week to 25 years in prison, with parole eligibility after 15 years. 

Prosecutors said that in 2014, after Feeney was convicted of possessing child sexual abuse material in the state of Washington, he was required to register as a sex offender. 

Last year, Feeney pleaded guilty to failing to update his sex offender registry information and was placed on supervised probation. 

In May 2025, prosecutors said Feeney violated the terms of his probation by possessing more than 50 photos and videos depicting child sexual abuse. Investigators also found evidence indicating that Feeney had used the internet to solicit multiple children under the age of 16 “to engage in sexual acts,” according to the prosecutor’s office.
