KIRK: Meet them in battle

The murder of Charlie Kirk is heartbreaking and infuriating. While others have expressed it in greater detail, this is a crucial moment. While the political implications are being analyzed, I interpret this event in a religious context. From my reading of the Book of Revelations, the time before the second coming of Jesus Christ is not a great time for Christians.

For example, Revelations 13:7 (KJV) speaks about a war against the saints of God. That same verse is clear that the saints (followers of God) are overcome. Simply put, for a time, we Christians will feel overcome, because we are. The murder of Charlie Kirk feels like one of those moments of being overcome. So how do we confront being overcome?

I am a proud LOTR nerd. LOTR stands for Lord of the Rings. One of my favorite parts of this cinematic feast is when Theoden and his army ride to the aid of Gondor (Return of the King). Theoden knows the hordes of Mordor are too many to defeat. Theoden knows he will lose the battle. However, when one of his commanders states this fact out loud, Theoden agrees, but then states “But we will meet them in battle nonetheless.” Then they do. 

The lesson here is that the choice to fight is more important than the result of the engagement. You fight because it is the right thing to do. So when you are feeling overcome, keep fighting. Meet the enemy in battle nonetheless, Charlie Kirk certainly did.
