THANKS: Back-to-school event a success

On Aug. 21, 300+ elementary school children filled the Windermere Coeur d’Alene Realty parking lot. Referred by teachers, local food banks and social services, kids and parents used vouchers to pick their favorite color backpack, then “shop” at dozens of booths, filling new backpacks with school supplies.

Bouncy houses, free hot dogs, amazing K-9 demonstrations, Coeur d'Alene Fire Department’s “tour” of the Ladder Truck, free haircuts, crafts, rock painting and the Dunk Tank provided an afternoon of sheer joy for all. Said one third grader, “This is better than the fair. Everything is free and I have a new backpack, too!”

We would like to extend a special thank you to the following, who helped make this such a successful and meaningful day!

Pioneer Title, The Coeur d'Alene Tribe, Post Falls Lions, The Elks, Title One, Northwest Specialty Hospital, Kootenai Title, ICCU, PRMG, Intermax, Coeur d'Alene Police Department K-9 Unit, Coeur d'Alene Fire Department, Emcee Cory Kolilis, Health Within Chiropractic Center, Coeur d'Alene Tractor, Mountain West Bank, Sew Wonder Dreams, Team Pinchuk, Loan Depot and The Coeur Group. Thank you to our amazing Coeur d'Alene Realty Realtors and staff who donated money, supplies and time. A special thanks to Aubrey Hogan and Kelly Suhr, who gave more than 50 haircuts; Sarah Zastrow’s rock painting booth; Michael and Briana Pearson’s Palytopia Craft Booth; Mark Whitt and Coeur d'Alene Boy Scout Troop No. 201 with demonstrations of rope tying and wilderness camping; Ryan and Morgan Keller and Brett Lewis, who grilled over 400 hot dogs; Larry Frisbie, lifeguard at the Dunk Tank; and Tony Norris, our fearless event leader whose vision led us all.

We can’t wait to do this again next year!

We are deeply grateful to the Idaho Community Foundation for believing in our vision of a community where every senior lives with dignity, free from hunger and isolation. Their support ensures that we can keep delivering not just meals, but also care, compassion, and connection to those who need it most.

On behalf of our seniors, volunteers, staff and board, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the Idaho Community Foundation for making such a lasting impact here in our community.
