NIC investigating instructor’s alleged remarks on Charlie Kirk

COEUR d’ALENE — North Idaho College is investigating allegations that an instructor made insensitive remarks on social media about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. 

Administrators learned of the allegations Friday and launched an investigation the same day, according to NIC. 

The Press was unable to verify the existence of the social media post Friday. 

“We want to assure our community that this matter is a priority and we are treating it with the utmost importance,” said a statement published by NIC. “At North Idaho College, we remain committed to fostering an environment where ideas can be shared openly, safely, and respectfully — a cornerstone of both education and democracy. The First Amendment protects the right to speak, but it does not shield anyone from the consequences of how that speech impacts others.” 

Two people contacted The Press about the alleged post.

"While our 1st Amendment guarantees our right to free speech, people in leadership positions have a higher responsibility — particularly when they influence our youth," wrote one.

In a statement, the college expressed condolences following Kirk’s death. 

“We extend our sympathies to his loved ones and to those impacted by this horrific event,” the statement said. “Violence must never be part of our civic or political life.”
