Spokane Valley firefighters determine Avista Stadium fire was 'accidental'
SPOKANE, Wash. — A fire that burned down the main concession stand at Avista Stadium last week was ruled as accidental, according to the Spokane Valley Fire Department.
The fire department said the fire started in a space above the walk-in cooler on the west side of the concession stand building before spreading into the attic.
The fire department also said no one was inside the building when the fire broke out and the building did not have fire protection or smoke detection systems.
The fire department said the fire caused an estimated $2 million - $2.5 million in damages.
The fire broke out early Friday morning, and a KREM 2 News crew on the scene saw one of the walls of a building in front of the stadium collapse in the flames.
With the stand being a complete loss, Senior Vice President of the Spokane Indians Otto Klein said they hope to have it rebuilt before the start of next season.
